NEXT Exam Details that are important from the draft:
NEXT 1
- NExT Step 1 will be a theoretical exam;
- The questions will be multiple-choice
- the examinations will be given via computer-based or online mode;
- this will be a centralized common all-India exam that will be administered by a body or authority designated by the commission;
- the exam will have six papers that cover subjects of the III MBBS or Final MBBS, both
a. Medicine and related fields;
b. Surgery and related fields;
c. Obstetrics and Gynecology;
d. Paediatrics;
e. Otorhinolaryngology;
f. Ophthalmology;
g. Applied aspects of all subjects covered by I MBBS and II MBBS;
h. Applied aspects of all subjects covered by III MBBS/Final MBBS Part l;NEXT 2
- Next 2 consists of
a. Medicine and related fields;
b. Surgery and related fields;
c. Obstetrics and Gynecology;
d. Paediatrics;
e. Otorhinolaryngology;
f. Ophthalmology;
g. Orthopaedics; and PMR (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) - The examination will be Objective Structured, Clinical Case Based, Simulated Cases/Patients with the goal of evaluating the practical The Commission will select the university or institution authorized to conduct NExT Step 2 for each college in the absence of state health universities.
- Once a year, there will be a regular NExT Step 2 exam. Once a year, there will be a NExT Step 2 Supplementary exam, which is only open to candidates who have failed one or more (up to three) of the seven subjects and are required to repeat those subjects.
- Candidates who do not pass both the NExT Step 2 Regular and Supplementary Examinations in a given year can only take the NExT Step 2 Regular Examination the following year.
- There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can take NExT Step 2, as long as they have passed both the NExT Step 1 and NExT Step 2 Examinations within ten years of starting the MBBS Course.
Question paper pattern:
– The majority of the questions will be clinical vignettes; 65 percent of the questions will be of the problem-solving variety.
– Twenty-five percent of the questions will be comprehensive.
– Recall questions will make up 10% of the questions.
Level of expertise that will be evaluated:
– Must know 60% – Nice to know 30% – May know 10% Papers and distribution 10% will be from preventive and social medicine 10% will be from basic sciences
Questions pertaining to forensic medicine, preventive medicine, and social medicine will be integrated.
Every day, there will be a break of two hours between the two sessions.
